EQ1 Messageboard Hatemongers: Iziz & Flybin
All of my jam-mates even unmiked tell me how good my bass drum sound with the EQ2. They say its the best sound they have ever heard. Without amplification all the time, I would probably use the EQ1, or use the Bonham method; two smooth white heads tune fairly loose with NO muffling.

Well, the other day I took off the stock Evans EQ1 that came stock on my Spaun kit, which KILLS for that sound, and put on an old FSIII with no muffling. I tuned it way up and only used a Maxi pad for batter side. WOW! Talk about making you hear things differently! I also just put up two toms and two cymbals.

I also noticed that the batter EQ1 that came on the drum is coated. Is this the norm for EQ1s? I have seen all clears for EQ3 and 4s, but am unsure of EQ1s. It all depends on how much gain you need, and that pretty much depends on how loud the sound is at the microphone. (heads, tuning, muffling) Dan, The 18" kick is currently set up with the Factory Tama heads, EQ1, no holes, etc. Is sounds pretty decent tuned low, tuned high it gives the boingy sound for jazz. I really have not had the time to mess around with different heads. I don't have any extra 18" heads around.

I'm planning cutting no mic hole in, because I heard a 20" with a great room sound (no mic hole, Evans EQ1 for batter) and want to experiment. This is also another reason that I don't want to get a batter head that requires muffling, because then I'll have to take the resonant head whenever I want to make a sound
